R&D tells us that this is due to the CR .NET runtime loading the UPS10.dll from both the CR directory and system. A fix for this has been rejected due to high likelihood of causing backward compatibility issues. Only work around I can suggest is using something like Arial Unicode MS. I tested with this and the space is there:
